The Mens Room working with The Home Office

Wednesday, February 15, 2006

The Mens Room are delighted to have received an invitation from the Home Office to join a group of experts for a new project REACH: Enabling black boys to achieve their potential.

Disproportionate numbers of Black boys and young men are not fulfilling their potential in education, employment and wider society, and are getting caught up in the Criminal Justice System. A lot is already going on to tackle this, but the evidence, consultation and concerns expressed by many commentators show that we need to take a fresh look at these issues.

The project is bringing together academics and practitioners from education, community projects, law enforcement, local government , sport and the arts, as well as officials from central Government departments - combining to form a group that will have particularly useful insights to contribute.

This project builds on the work of the former Race equality Advisory panel and Lawrence Steering group, through which the Home Office has had a productive relationship over the years.
