Clive Lewis was recently in Manchester engaging with some young black males as part of some government led research. Clive is currently chair of REACH. The Government’s REACH group – launched earlier this year and brings together some of the leading thinkers and doers on the issues facing young Black men, to work up practical suggestions for change.
REACH has set itself the challenge of coming up with up to five workable recommendations for Government by early 2007 on how we can do the most to ensure young Black men aspire to great things and achieve them. It is looking at the research, at what happens in school and outside, and at the role played by parents, communities and the young men themselves.
The group are currently visiting key cities around England to talk to young men and their families about how they see the challenge.
The Department for Communities and Local Government leads on this project working with Department for Education and Skills and the Home Office.
